The Animal Rescue League now contracts with Pennsylvania State Dog Law Enforcement as the primary contractor for stray dogs in all of Berks County, including the City of Reading. The Animal Rescue League is also the contracted provider of Animal Control Services for all of Berks County, including the City of Reading, with the exception of the Boroughs of Bally and Strausstown, and the Townships of Hereford, North Heidelberg, Perry, Upper Bern, and Upper Tulpehocken. These two boroughs and five townships have not contracted with any provider for Animal Control Services. However, the Animal Rescue League will still respond to reports for stray dogs and injured animals in these areas.
The Animal Rescue League is the primary source for all animal abuse and animal cruelty complaints, which may be reported here, or via telephone at 610-373-8830. The Animal Rescue League continues to be the only shelter in Berks County equipped to handle large animal rescue as it has for over twenty years.
